Class Reflection 1

The big idea of this class was OER, Open Educational Resources.

We discussed how teachers have special permission to use some resources for teaching purposes.

On the topic of images, we were shown websites like wiki media, flickr, and Pexels where people will often post their photos under creative commons, leaving them as free to use for the public. Another way to get photos is to simply take them yourself. If you take the photo then you are able to use it in videos, slideshows, lessons, etc.

As for creating your own resources, such as slideshows or videos, you are automatically given copyright unless you state that other people can use it. It is important to state that other people are allowed to take and adapt the materials you post online, otherwise they are not able to use them in their classroom, even if it is exactly what they were looking for. On the other hand, if you do not want other people using your work in their classes, you can leave it as copyright or not post it at all to keep it for yourself and your own classes.

While discussing AI as a method for generating project ideas, it was noted that AI may be using information that is copyright, so it is important to be careful and check its sources. I personally believe it is also important to moderate how much you are using AI to create assignments or lesson plans, as it does not have the teaching degree or background classroom knowledge.

Overall, it is important to know where your information and materials are coming from as well as citing the information properly!
